Clifford Bailey is a self-taught painter. "It is your hand, your eye," he says. "The only way to learn to paint is to paint. Expose yourself to a lot of art and get a good idea of what a good painting looks like." Bailey composes his landscape paintings from recollections stored in his mind's eye and from his collection of photographic slides. His primary concern in creating a composition is how it feels, the light and the atmosphere.
Bailey produces between 50 and 75 paintings a year, which include landscapes, still-lifes, dot-landscapes, watercolors, and oils. He lives with his wife Cheryl on a farm east of Greeley in Colorado.
